Some Microsoft 365 users will soon see a prompt to back up files through OneDrive.
“The rollout starts mid-March 2025 for Public Preview and early April 2025 for General Availability.

Word, Excel, and PowerPoint will soon include a prompt to back up files to OneDrive for certain users.
No action is required from admins, and the feature will be enabled automatically.”
The rollout should be completed in early May.
KFM makes doing so a bit easier since your PC’s main folders can be synced through OneDrive.

The Message Bar in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint will soon show a prompt to eligible users to back up files through Known Folder Move.
What is OneDrive Known Folder Move?
The Screenshots folder and Camera Roll can also be backed up through KFM.
KFM is available on Windows 11 and some older versions of Windows as well.

Microsoft has a documentexplaining the feature in depth.
Perhaps the biggest benefit of KFM is that it is configurable through group policies.
IT admins can deploy a policy to prompt users to protect folders through KFM.

If an organization has blocked KFM, that prompt will not appear within any of the Microsoft 365 apps.
The Message Bar will also not appear if a user is already enrolled in KFM.
