Remember when Dell first shrunk the bezels on theXPS 13and the low-down camera?
How aboutHuawei’s pop up “nose cam” in the keyboard?

Just like that there’s no webcam, with the module stowed neatly away in the chassis.
Novel, but ultimately flawed.
Recently I came upon theStar Labs StarFighter.
The webcam isn’t always attached to the laptop
It’s simple, but brilliant.

Just like that there’s no webcam, with the module stowed neatly away in the chassis.
The webcam on the Star Labs StarFighter is detachable.
So, the process of attaching and detaching it is quite simple.
And I get that.

Better webcams and more display space without this atrocity? Yes please.
And is physically popping the webcam off the laptop that much more taxing than sliding a privacy cover across?
No notches, better webcams
The first, perhaps most obvious benefit is design.
You also wouldn’t ever have to put up with anotch on your laptop display.

I wonder what Lenovo could do with a detachable webcam module.
No, Apple, it isn’t a design feature.
A separate module would also lend itself to just having better camera hardware.
Sometimes you just need size and space.

I’m not really a fan of webcams on laptops myself.
With a setup like this, everyone could be happy.
