Outside of color variants, what other design changes are there?
Outside of that, the joysticks have been upgraded to longer-lasting ones than what is in the original Ally.
Unfortunately, they still aren’t Hall Effect joysticks, though.
However, the newer gear does offer some nice improvements over what’s inside the base handheld.

For one thing, it comes with 24GB RAM rather than the 16GB RAM of the original.

Asus ROG has improved upon the original by also including a larger 24GB RAM and up to 1TB SSD.
The location for the volume buttons, headphone jack, and microSD card have been shifted around.
Additionally, the battery capacity is doubled to an 80Whr one rather than the original rig’s 40Whr battery.

The ports and top buttons are a bit different on ROG Ally X than they are on original ROG Ally.

Better is a very relative term here.
Both the ROG Ally X and the Steam Deck OLED offer perks that the other doesn’t have.
The ROG Ally X will still have the same AMD Z1 Extreme processor.
However, people also need to navigate through Windows and potentially do some troubleshooting from time to time.
