I myself have lost hope in Ubisoft over the years, and I’m not alone.
For many, the ailing French games publisher has one more chance at redemption:Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows may just be the redemption that Ubisoft sorely needs.
What is Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
More specifically, 16th Century feudal Japan, during the war-torn Sengoku period.
Largely, that means a moredynamicopen world.

I’m intrigued by this story so far, and it definitely feels much closer to “Assassin’s Creed” than Valhalla or Odyssey.
The world changes more than visually as time progresses, too.
It’s not just about the big picture Ubisoft paid attention to the minute details, too.
There’s much greater variety to NPC appearancesandbehaviors, and crowd density has been increased.

Many elements of the environment are interactable and even destructible, too.
It’s impressive in action, and makes combat feel more impactful.
I adored exploring the tiny slice of Japan Ubisoft set me loose in.

Both characters feel amazing to play as.
In general, though, I had a blast playing AC Shadows.

Yasuke and Naoe are both excellent characters in entirely different ways. Ubisoft did a great job here.
There are other improvements that I genuinely love, too.
My personal favorite is the “Immersive Mode.”
It’s an option that more games set in different parts of the world need to have.

Naoe plays every bit like I hoped she would, and it’s a ton of fun.
If Ubisoft can stick the landing, it may signal a desperately needed change at the publisher.
I just hope it’s not too little too late.

This world is so unbelievably beautiful. I’m excited to see it in Autumn and Winter.

I didn’t get to explore the “Dojo” feature much. I’m curious if I’ll particularly care about it in the full game.

Oh yes, Naoe indeed possesses a hidden blade, and she’s very good at using it.
