This hands-on was made possible thanks to a pre-production sample provided by HP.

The company had no input nor saw the contents of this article prior to publication.

An impressive AI PC, even this far out from its launch.

That means improved performance and fewer dongles, and that’s great for enterprise.

It’s a great keyboard, and at this level improvements will largely come down to subjective opinion.

This touch-enabled display is also great in my limited testing.

Am I missing anything?

Oh yeah, thetwoUSB punch in-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, one on each side of the laptop.

HP is heavily investing in AI itself, and the EliteBook X is a showcase of those early efforts.

This is an unapologetically thick laptop, and that chonk is all about added performance.

That’s all boring stuff that we’ve seen a million times, though.

The HP EliteBook X also introduces a new version of HP’s Smart Sense.

A much more modern display design does mean the EliteBook X 14 is actually shorter and narrower than the OmniBook Ultra 14.

Again, though, none of that really matters to consumers.

HP will progressively move more of HP AI Companion’s features to your local NPU, too.

Watch out for that review coming to Windows Central in the coming days.

I see HP’s vision here, and it paints an exciting picture for the future.

The EliteBook X may be the thicker laptop, but it’s actually lighter and smaller in every other dimension than the OmniBook Ultra… and it has more ports.

The HP AI Companion actually feels like a fleshed out tool with real promise.
