It does everything it advertises, too, but the software experience definitely leaves a lot to be desired.

Here’s my full review of the Live Gamer ULTRA 2.1 capture card.

All the ports you need, and they’re all easy to understand and use.

The company did not see the contents of the review before publishing.

You get a two-tone, eye-shaped chassis made completely out of lightweight plastic.

Build quality is great, though, and that’s what matters most.

It’s a UVC capture card, meaning it’s plug-and-play no special drivers needed.

Once that’s done, though, you’re all good to go.

The former is my limitation, but the latter is AVerMedia’s.

It’s a subtle (apart from that RGB lightbar), nicely designed external capture card that should fit in with any setup.

Most people don’t need that, though.

It’s an expensive investment, but it may be worth it.

Like, seriously expensive.

You don’t need to install drivers to use it, but awkward software and in-progress firmware updates are necessary to get the most out of this.

If that’s all you oughta hear to pull the trigger, then off you go.

That makes it expensive more expensive than a lot of people will need.

AVerMedia’s Gaming Utility handles the Live Gamer ULTRA 2.1, and it’s… Fine. Mostly.

Any Windows or macOS device with a USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 port (or faster) can make use of the Live Gamer ULTRA 2.1.

When it comes to HDMI 2.1 capturing, this capture card mostly stands alone.

Buy products as they are not as they can be, but it’s still worth highlighting how every issue this card has can be fixed by AVerMedia via software and firmware updates. The hardware is great.
